If You Love Me, I’m Yours

‘If you love me, I’m yours…’

Maud didn’t mind being boring, not really. She had a sensible job, clothes, and love life… if you counted an overbearing ex who had thanked her, rolled over and was snoring before she even realised he’d begun! She could tolerate not fulfilling her dreams, if her parents would pay her one compliment about the only thing she was passionate about in life: her art.

Dot should have fit in with her flamboyant and slightly eccentric family of talented artists, but somehow, she was an anomaly who couldn’t paint. She tried hard to be part of their world by becoming an art agent extraordinaire, but she dreamed of finding her own voice.

Dot’s brother Nate, a smoulderingly sexy and famous artist, was adored by everyone. His creative talent left them in awe of his ability to capture such passion on canvas. Women worshipped him, and even Dot’s friend Maud flushed and bumped into things when he walked into a room, but a tragic event in his past had left him emotionally and physically scarred, and reluctant to face the world again.

Someone was leaving exquisite little paintings on park benches, with a tag saying, ‘If you love me, I’m yours’. The art was so fresh and cutting-edge, that it generated a media frenzy and a scramble to discover where the mystery artist could be hiding. The revelation of who the prodigious artist was interlinked Maud, Dot and Nate’s lives forever, but their worlds came crashing down.

Were bonds of friendship, love and loyalty strong enough to withstand fame, success and scandal?

A Splendid, Captivating Story!   5 stars

What a happy, crazy, captivating read! I’m quite sorry to have reached the end.

Maud’s life has been overly controlled by her staid parents. With a perfect, dust-free home, Maud’s mother has always regarded her love of painting as an inconvenience. Neither of her parents have ever encouraged her artistic tendencies and have steered Maud to a sensible job, a sensible house and a bit of a boring life with the result that she lacks confidence in herself. She even dresses down as befits a teaching assistant. Life – and Maud – is bland. Thank goodness for her art, even if she doubts herself.

Dot comes from a very arty family; indeed her parents and sibling are famous whilst her own artistic attempts fall wide of the mark. However, she is very successful at managing the careers of her nearest and dearest and it is a major showing of her brother’s work that she first crosses paths with Maud. This sets the scene for what’s to come.

An absorbing novel, this encompasses family, friends, mystery, romance and oh, so much more. It all adds up to a beautifully written story which completely enslaves the reader and allows us to bury ourselves in the lives of these marvellously created characters. Lizzie Chantree has a wonderful style of writing which draws the reader in and almost makes you a part of the story. Even if I wanted to, I could find nothing to criticise; from the stunning cover to the final page, the writing has drawn me in and made me a part of Maud and Dot’s world and I have loved every moment.  A splendid read and one which I’m more than happy to recommend.

My thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for providing my copy. This is my honest, original and unbiased review.
